The vision of being skinny and being able to fit into the tiniest of jeans is a vision shared by thousands of people across the globe, and although there are tons of resources and help guides available, many people still don’t go the right way about achieving these envisioned goals. For the young, the desperate and the naïve, the first thought which comes into their heads when they decide to lose weight, is eating less food. Whilst this is true, there is a massive difference between consuming a low calorie, healthy diet, and starvation!
Weight loss is not the only motive behind people employing a healthy diet, as maintaining a balanced diet can pose several other benefits such as healthier skin, more energy and of course, a healthier heart. Whatever your motives are, never forget that there is a fine line between a healthy diet and starvation, and stepping over that line can pose massive health risks, regardless of how well you think you are doing.
Obviously, the sign of being hungry will always be a factor when determining whether your body is in starvation mode or not, but everybody in their lifetime will have experienced a period of time where they felt hungry, and if you are trying to maintain a low calorie, healthy diet, this feeling may occur more than you expect. However, there are no other ways to tell whether you are actually starving your body of the vital nutrients it requires, making you feel like you are eating enough, when in fact you are not.
A healthy balanced diet is one which is high in all of the major foods groups, and one which supplies your body with vital nutrients such as protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and fiber. Depriving your body of just one of these nutrients can have a dramatic effect on your overall health. So, the next time you decide to start a new ‘fad diet’, please research into the harmful side effects. Let’s say for example, you want to live on a diet of just salad alone: You are basically depriving your body of carbohydrates and protein. This will leave you feeling completely drained, and your muscles and other tissues will never grow and repair, making you look weak, energy less and skinny (but not in a good way).
With the proper knowledge, a proper healthy diet can be as easy as starving yourself: Without the worry of constantly being hungry! A proper healthy diet will make you feel fresh, all day every day instead of feeling drained and weak when starving yourself. Not only will eating a good healthy diet make you feel better, it will also reduce the chances of developing any fatal diseases such as heart disease. Not consuming the recommended amount of the essential nutrients will also leave you vulnerable to hundreds and hundreds of life threatening risks, including strokes, heart attacks and even cancer!
Exposing your body to the hurt of constant malnutrition and hydration is not something which should be voluntarily forced upon yourself. If you believe you have an eating disorder, then seek medical advice from your local GP, as leaving it too long without being treated could be very dangerous for your health. There are thousands of healthy foods out there, and we promise that you will enjoy at least half of them, so why deprive your body? Find a healthy, balanced meal plan and stick to it. Your body will thank you!
